■ Objective:
A program of Mercedes-Benz Japan to promote cultural and artistic activities, “Mercedes-Benz Art Scope” has been supporting the endeavors of young artists from Japan and Europe through overseas residencies for more than thirty years. Associated with Tama Art University since 2022, Mercedes-Benz Art Scope exchange programs for artists from Japan and Germany were further expanded to include workshops at the university, as occasions for sharing experiences with artists from the next generation. One of the participants from Germany in 2022-2024 was Annika Kahrs, who came to Tokyo for two and a half months in September 2024, whereby she conducted research broadly related to sound. In late November, during the final stage of her stay, Kahrs was invited as instructor for the Tama Art University Graduate School’s Experimental Workshop, and the talk session and workshop “Shifting Sounds – on the possibilities of sound and music in visual arts” were held with the artist’s participation.
